Ann. A client asked for a dress that was conservative in the front, backless, with a fun sleeve, and in a warm autumn color. So I designed in this one for her. She looks stunning in it!

Carla

Carla. I love Michelle Obama’s style, but I’m also a big fan of French first lady Carla Bruni. This one was inspired for her. I used a conservative wool, but mixed in hints of fun and femininity with the rosette and shimmering red lining. It would look great with heels or a pair of Carla’s trademark flats. You may see me in this tomorrow – I’m wearing it to work!

 

Bollywood remake

Bollywood remake. A couple years ago my boyfriend’s mother gave me a wrap skirt from India. Cotton with lovely gold thread deatails. It was beautiful, but it was too long and the proportions weren’t really right, so I couldn’t wear it. So I recently make it into a sheath dress – with a big Carrie Bradshaw-style floret – instead. I’ve converted other clothing items into something new for a few clients as well. Beautiful fabric should never go to waste!

Autumn

Autumn. Another cousin of the Vintage. Inspired by fall fruits vegetables like squash and star fruit, so I mimicked them a bit with the seam overstitching. As you’ve probably guessed by now, I’m a fan of silk dupioni. The gold tone works well.

Michaela

Michaela. The fabric reminded me of this Michael Kors dress. So I made this one, with some changes. (The drama of the Kors dress was in the front, with the intricate pleating. On mine, the drama is at the top with the high collar.) I also did a raised waist to eliminate the need for a belt. I still named in Michaela, as a tribute to Kors, one of my favorite designers.

Great for a stretch satin print like this one.

UPDATE: I added pics taken outside, since it’s nice out now. I think the outdoor pics always look better.

 

Alex

Alex. For a client. These photos don’t do it justice. She looks absolutely stunning in this silk dupioni aqua swing skirt, that is a cousin of the Vintage. Perfect party skirt.

Weekender

 

Weekender. A pullover dress with high neck and front kick slit, ¾ length sleeves. Perfect for fall – can be dressed down with a denim jacket for day, dressed up with heels and a belt for the office or evening. Made here in a midweight cotton knit.

New take on the ‘Elleen’

The ‘Elleen’ dress made for a client in a mid-weight yellow wool crepe, giving it a much different feel than the original. Has hand-sewn florets at the neckline and along the back zipper; side pleats and hidden pockets. A perfect day-to evening look for fall.

Lola

Lola. This darted halter dress has both movement and structure. The ruffled hem detail is hand stitched. Perfect for a lightweight or midweight wool blend fabric like the slate gray crepe shown.

Mod

Mod.  This ‘60s-inspired shift mini dress with a hand-sewn gathered neckline detail is a modern take on the mod look. It’s perfect for a retro geometric print knit fabric like the one shown.
